Sogetsu Ikebana

Sogetsu Ikebana—the Japanese artistic display of plant material, was demonstrated before the Norwalk Garden Club, February 12, by Roxane Wasserman, President of Ikebana International, New York Chapter #7.

Using various unique containers, branches, sticks, flowers, plants, and even a bamboo placemat, Roxane held the audience spellbound as she created magical displays. As a teacher, she also guided the group through a discussion of the various techniques she was employing as she worked.

If you are interested in learning more about Sogetsu Ikebana, there are several opportunities to attend lectures and demonstrations in the coming months.

Roxane will be holding Ikebana sessions at the Pound Ridge Library, Pound Ridge, NY on March 7, March 28, and May 2. For more details, click here. Look under “Calendar.”

At the New York Botanical Garden, a program entitled, “Ohara Ikebana Floral Demonstration,” will be conducted on April 1 by Jose Salcedo. For more information, go to the NYBG website, Continuing Education and scroll “S” names for Salcedo.
